Alfonso* took great pride in his magnificent garden in North Hobart, where he hand-built terraces for his thriving fruit trees and vegetables. One of his greatest joys was growing tomatoes from seeds he had brought from his birthplace in Sicily. Each year, he involved his whole family in the tradition of collecting and storing seeds for the next season.
This cherished ritual became a family tradition, with his children continuing to grow ‘Alfonso’ Heirloom tomatoes in their own gardens. Alfonso also passed down his canning equipment to his son, Jasper, who now bottles tomato sauce for family and friends each year.
By sharing the significance of these sentimental items and making his wishes known, Alfonso ensured that his memory and traditions have been preserved for future generations.
