Public Trustee Launches Supported Decision-Making Guidelines.

We are pleased to announce that our Supported Decision-Making Guidelines are now available on our website.

Our Supported decision-making framework, launched in October 2023, represented a significant change aimed at enhancing the lives of individuals with impaired decision-making abilities.

What is Supported Decision-Making?

Supported decision-making is an empowering approach to assist individuals with impaired decision-making abilities in actively participating in decisions that affect their lives.

Best Practice framework to align with the new Guardianship and Administration Amendment Act 2023:

The Public Trustee collaborated with Australia’s leading experts in the field to develop a best practice framework to comply with the new legislative requirements. The new Guardianship and Administration Amendment Act 2023, passed by the Tasmanian Parliament in September 2023, is set to take effect within the next 12 months.

Transforming the Public Trustee

In 2023 we prioritised client-focused initiatives. We’ve implemented 26 of 28 recommendations from the Independent Review.  A major recruitment drive significantly reduced client caseloads improving accessibility and responsiveness with positive results noted in our FY23 client experience surveys. Community engagement was a major focus with numerous educational sessions provided throughout the year. We developed and launched our Supported Decision-Making Guidelines which is an important step toward improving the lives of our clients with impaired decision-making whom we support.
