What’s your end-of-life secret wish? Have you shared it with your loved ones? This Dying to Know Day, watch our webinar recording on how to document your wishes and tell your loved ones what you want.
Talking about how you want to be remembered, celebrated, and how you want your estate shared is one of the most important conversations you can have. It doesn’t have to be hard.
This recorded webinar is a edited version of a live session we held with Palliative Care Tasmania. We’re grateful for their permission to re-use their thoughtful contribution.
What you’ll hear about
✔️ Why Planning Ahead Matters
Many Australians do not have essential legal documents in place, leaving families with difficult decisions during already stressful times. The webinar emphasises the importance of preparing a Will, Enduring Power of Attorney, Enduring Guardianship, and an Advance Care Directive to ensure your choices are known and legally upheld.
✔️ Why everyone should have an Advance Care Directive
Kate Glover, representing Palliative Care Tasmania, explained what an Advance Care Directive is and why it’s an important document for everyone to have. She highlighted how talking to your loved ones about your wishes can reduce family stress and ensure medical decisions align with your personal values.
✔️ Wills, Enduring Power of Attorney and Enduring Guardianships
Naomi Foo from the Public Trustee explained how we work with Tasmanians to draft and securely store Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney and Enduring Guardianship documents. She stressed the importance of appointing a reliable executor and the risks of dying without a valid Will.
✔️ Taking Action – What You Can Do Now
- Start conversations with your family and loved ones. What’s the secret you want to share?
- Create or update your documents, like your Will, Enduring Power of Attorney, and Enduring guardianship to appoint people to take on important roles for you.
- Consider registering your Advance Care Directive with TASCAT for accessibility.
- Seek legal advice if needed to ensure documents are correctly prepared.
