Annual Report shows Public Trustee reforms delivering for Tasmanians

The Public Trustee’s Annual Report for 2024-25 shows how recent reforms are delivering for Tasmanians.

The Public Trustee CEO, Todd Kennedy, said that 2024-25 was a huge turning point for the Public Trustee.

“After three years of significant organisational change, we are now seeing strong results right across the board, in client experience, staff engagement, financial sustainability, and community outcomes,” Mr Kennedy said.

The 2024-25 Annual Report, tabled in Parliament today, highlights a solid financial result with a modest Net Operating Profit After Tax of $293 000, compared with a $2.58 million loss the previous year.

“This result reflects strong discipline in managing costs and support from the Tasmanian Government through its Community Service Obligation funding.

“Importantly, it means we can continue to put our clients at the centre of everything we do and deliver a sustainable service that supports vulnerable Tasmanians well into the future.”

Other highlights of the 2024-25 report include:

  • 81 per cent positive client-experience rating, with 89 per cent of clients saying their account manager treats them with respect and 81per cent feeling supported to become financially independent.
  • 100 per cent satisfaction from will clients and 98 per cent satisfaction from beneficiary clients.
  • 90 per cent reduction in substantiated complaints and a 60 per cent overall reduction in complaints since reforms began.
  • 91 per cent staff-engagement rating, with 95 per cent of staff proud to tell others they work for the Public Trustee.
  • Ongoing community education through seminars, webinars and media outreach encouraging Tasmanians to plan ahead — with almost 121 000 social-media views and 590 new wills prepared.
  • Implementation of stronger cyber-security systems, modernised IT infrastructure, and the establishment of a new Security Operations Centre to protect client information.

“Clients tell us they feel heard, respected and supported. That is the best indicator of success we could hope for.

“Our focus on client-centred practice has been backed by strong leadership, prudent financial management and a clear vision for continuous improvement.”

The next phase of reform will focus on modernising legacy systems and further enhancing efficiency and client service delivery.

“We are deeply proud of what has been achieved so far and confident that the Public Trustee is now on a sustainable footing to serve Tasmanians for the next generation.”
