An important chat over hot apple crumble

Talking about your estate plan should not be difficult, but it can sometimes feel strange. For *Ryan, when his mum, *Kerrianne, wanted to talk about her wishes, he felt a bit uncomfortable.

Ryan says, “I thought it was a bit odd…I didn’t think she needed an estate plan.” But Kerrianne knew the importance of having one and explained to Ryan why it was important to document her wishes and to talk about them.

“…she explained it was like her apple crumble recipe,” Ryan said, remembering how his grandmother had shared the recipe with Kerrianne, who in turn shared it with him, “I’m even teaching my son the same recipe, now that he’s old enough.”

Kerrianne explained to Ryan, “unless it’s written down and shared, it would get lost in translation. She wanted to make sure we know how to manage her estate one day…”

By documenting her wishes and talking about them, Kerrianne ensured her legacy, like her apple crumble recipe, will live on.
