Why set up a Trust?
Some of the reasons for setting up a Trust may be to:
- give those who cannot hold property an interest in it
- provide for dependents
- secure property to benefit persons in succession
- prevent squandering of family property
- make a future gift in the light of circumstances yet to occur
- provide (by Will particularly) for causes or non-human objects such as charities and charitable objects
- enable two or more persons or entities to hold land
- facilitate investment such as unit Trusts, common or grouped investment funds or property Trusts
- minimise income tax by use of discretionary Trusts
